Abstract: Hate crimes against Asian Americans have grown substantially in recent years. They reflect not just fear or hate of today's Asian Americans but also a long history of anti-Asian racism. Our standard approaches to fighting this may not be working. Even our celebrations of Asian Americans can further the problems we are trying to solve. We need to consider the root of this racism in order to fully address it.
